We are seeking an Implementation Specialist to join our Africa Office based in Lome, Togo, and be a member of our diverse and international Implementation Strategies Team. You will work across several teams and projects focusing on supporting the implementation of NDC, NAP and climate finance strategies in the African region and globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support analytical research on adaptation and mitigation-related issues and climate finance
- Support writing of reports, work papers, briefings and other information material
- Interact with stakeholders and project partners
- Support stakeholders’ consultations and engagement in various countries in the region
- Support the development of methods and tools for capacity-building activities, including information and knowledge products and presentations
- Support the development, review and implementation of climate change strategies including national adaptation plans (NAP), nationally determined contributions (NDC) and long-term strategies (LTS)
- Maintain an overview of relevant literature and of relevant national and regional events
- Assist team members with proof-reading and formatting reports, work papers, briefings and other information material and make sure that all documents in their area of responsibility are filed correctly
- Support facilitates internal and external meetings and discussions (logistics, agenda, reports, follow-up)
- Support team leaders with organizational and administrative aspects of project development and project management
- Contribute to the identification and development of funding opportunities in Africa as well as globally
Your profile
- A master’s degree in the environment or climate-related studies, such as environmental management, climate science, social science, economics, international development or a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in climate change, sustainable development, capacity building
- Experience and strong interest in inter-disciplinary work related to climate change policy, science and practice
- Excellent analytical and writing skills with the ability to summarize and synthesize big volumes of information and/or data for policy and project recommendations/actions
- Excellent understanding and experience in NAP and NDC revision and implementation
- Good understanding of climate finance processes, modalities and sources
- Strong/advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with openness towards learning new software and other working tools
- High organization skills, being detail-oriented and a motivated self-starter and a team player able to interact and cooperate with a diverse array of people, including remotely in a highly international team
- The ability to actively seek the knowledge needed to complete assignments and share knowledge with others, communicating and presenting information in a clear and organized manner
- Experience in project management and coordination is a strong advantage
- Our working language is English. Therefore, fluency in English is required, sound proficiency in French is necessary
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally on a needed basis
